In finding a niche, some people have a system that they use in order to determine whether or not a niche is profitable. They rank the number of searches done for certain search terms, they look at how many advertisers there are bidding on certain terms, and they look at how many results there are in Google for their Niche. This is a good formula and I have used it.
But, Let me ask, do you have any interest, hobbies or shills? Do you not think that other people might share those same interest, hobbies or skills? Well, They do. Regardless of what you may have been told, people are interested in what you have to say. I feel that sticking to your own interests will help you write the most informative blog posts possible, and you will enjoy doing it.
If finding profitable niches is somewhat of a struggle for you (it was for a long time for me as well), I'd highly recommend reading Tim Arview's ebook on finding profitable niches. His has an emphasis on using Adsense to generate revenue. Tim is a master at finding niches, and he reveals his secrets for just $7.
I definitely recommend looking at his site here.

Finding A Niche
Making Money with MySpace
MySpace has quickly become the world's largest community, with millions of users, and billions of hits every single week. MySpace has thousands of groups, thousands of new users every day, and countless opportunities to profit. About six months ago I found myself wandering, Is it possible to make money with MySpace? I found that the answer was Yes. There are people making a killing off of MySpace.
MySpace, users like you and me. It is not just high school students that use MySpace. It seems evermore that everyone and their grandma has a MySpace account that is being checked several times a day. So, it's about time that you started marketing to those who use the website.
There are countless communities and groups inside of MySpace. Posting simple bulletins and messages on their forums can generate a lot of attention to whatever you are trying to sell. For example, because I market on the internet, I post in the Make Money and Entrepreneurship sections, talk about my website and blogs, and all of a sudden, I generate buzz and attention. If you sell baby strollers, guess where you can post a message to a group of new mommies? Yep, MySpace. Best of all, this marketing strategy doesn't cost you a dime.
There are also programs that allow you to make money with MySpace almost automatically. Many bands use bots to find and add friends to their accounts in order to increase exposure. Some people make money with MySpace by promoting affiliate programs or their internet newsletters via their MySpace accounts.
With any marketing strategy, the use of a list is always stressed. Some people use the "endless chain" method, while others simply send out memos to the members of their list. Internet Marketers send out newsletters. MySpace is an easy way to generate a list of potential buyers. All of your "friends" are now potential buyers. You can send out bulletins and talk about new products, services, or free promotions.
If you have neglected to market through MySpace, you are leaving a lot of money on the table. Even presidential candidates have now turned to MySpace to increase exposure. MySpace can give you an unbelievable amount of leverage and recognition on the internet. It's about time that you start utilizing this unbelievable resource and market to the largest community of potential buyers.
